Indian Ocean – On July 12, 2024, the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) collaborated with the Indian Navy in a significant joint maritime activity in the Indian Ocean.
This operation highlighted the advanced interoperability between the U.S. and India, emphasizing their mutual dedication to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. The exercise focused on enhancing shared maritime domain awareness, information sharing, logistics interoperability, and combined air-to-air capabilities.
The participating units included the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), Carrier Air Wing 11, and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118). From the Indian side, the guided-missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam (D66) and replenishment ship INS Aditya (A59) were involved.
The Indian Navy’s regular participation alongside U.S. Navy units in multilateral exercises across the Pacific, including Southwest Asia and littoral Africa, continues to strengthen bilateral defense ties. Additionally, the Indian Navy is taking on leadership roles with the U.S. Navy and other allies in the ongoing Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise in Hawaii.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is currently operating with Carrier Strike Group Nine, having conducted this joint maritime activity in the 7th Fleet area of operations.
The 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, regularly engaging with allies and partners to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
